Thanks to the Fair Credit Reporting Act you can now see credit report information from each of the three major credit reporting bureaus for free once a year. You can use the website AnnualCreditReport.com to access your credit reports from each of the major bureaus online.

In order to access your credit reports you will need to verify some personal information. Each credit bureau will ask you a few questions to validate your identity. These questions will be based on information the credit bureaus have obtained from various lenders and other companies who report to your credit history.

The only real downside to AnnualCreditReport.com is that you can only get a current copy of your credit report once a year. This means for the rest of the year you won’t have any idea of what’s being added or falling off your credit report. Not only that, but your free credit reports won’t actually contain your credit scores so you won’t know exactly where you stand.

If you’ve already pulled your free credit report but still want to see credit report updates as they’re added and removed from your credit report you could always sign up for a free credit monitoring service. Most monitoring services will allow you to access your credit report and credit scores as often as you would like as long as you stay a member.

You can typically sign up for an inexpensive trial membership which will give you instant access to see credit report information and scores online. You just need to be aware of how much membership costs and how long your trial membership lasts so that you can cancel your membership before you get charged the full amount. Be sure to find out how difficult it is to cancel before you wait until the last day and miss your chance.
