How Healthy Is Your Credit?

Best Places to Find a Cheap Credit Report

Everybody wants to get a cheap credit report but did you know that you can get your credit report for free every year? If you’ve already got your free annual report you can always sign up for inexpensive credit monitoring services which will give you access to your credit reports. If you’d rather not risk signing up for a free trial there are a few other options but they aren’t nearly as cheap.

Free is Better than Cheap – AnnualCreditReport.com

While getting a cheap credit report is great, getting a free credit report is even better. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act everyone is entitled access to their current credit report from each of the 3 major credit reporting bureaus (Equifax, Experian & TransUnion) once per year. You can access these free credit reports online through AnnualCreditReport.com.

In order to access your credit report through each bureau you will need to answer some security questions to help verify your identity. These questions will be based on information you have submitted to lenders in the past such as your address and people who you’ve lived with. If you have absolutely no credit history you might find it impossible to access your free credit reports online.

Using a Trial Membership

If you have already used up your once a year free credit report through AnnualCreditReport.com you may also be able to get a cheap credit report by signing up for a trial membership at a credit report monitoring service. These services typically offer a free or low cost trial membership which allows you to access your credit reports and credit scores online as often as you’d like.

If you plan on looking for a trial membership to get a cheap credit report there are a few things you should consider:

  • Trial Period - How long is the trial period exactly? If you don’t want to be charged the full monthly membership price you will need to cancel your trial membership before the trial period expires. This will typically be 7 to 14 days though it could be as low as 3 days.
  • How to Cancel - Some companies will try to force you to keep your membership by making it difficult to cancel your membership. Find out if you can cancel it online, by email, over the phone or by sending a letter. If you can cancel by phone try calling the company first and see how long it takes to get through to a real person.
  • Monthly Costs - If you don’t cancel your trial membership you will have to pay a monthly membership which could be up to $19.95 a month or more. Be prepared to pay this in case you forget to cancel your membership. Don’t charge your membership to a card which is close to the limit.

Buying a Cheap Credit Report

You can go through a site like TrueCredit and buy your tri merged credit report but it’s going to cost you. Their “cheap credit report” is going to set you back about $30. You can try to shop around for a better deal but as of writing this article that’s about as good as it gets for purchasing all 3 credit reports online.

If you were to buy your credit reports and credit scores through each of the credit bureaus separately it’s going to end up costing you a lot more money and will take you that much longer to pull them all individually. Buying a 3 in 1 report with credit scores will typically save you a lot of time and money.
